A COMMUNITY pop-up shop providing much more than just produce has been presented with the High Sheriff of Cornwall’s Unsung Hero award.
Village Greens is run by Diane Wells and a team of volunteers out of the village hall at Mount.
Before Covid-19, Village Greens was run on a Friday, providing fresh local produce and a meeting place for residents over a cup of coffee, snacks or bowl of soup.
’As lockdown began, Di and her team turned their hand to food boxes, preparing up to 60 a week for collection or delivery,’ said High Sheriff Kate Holborow.
’Bread, sausage rolls and jam were just a few of the contents prepared by Di herself.
’For some the weekly Village Greens delivery provided much more than delicious food essentials. It was a welcome contact point; a friendly face and a distanced chat which was much appreciated. Thank you.’
Nominations for the High Sheriff of Cornwall’s Unsung Hero Award, with a brief citation, and a contact point for further discussion should be forwarded to the High Sheriff’s office via [email protected] until February 28 2021.
