A TROUPE of Maasai Warriors visited Carbeile Junior School, Torpoint, to perform in front of the children and give an evening performance to family and friends.

The troupe from Kenya is part of the Osiligi charity which was set up in 2004 by British man John Curtin to help improve the quality of life for the Maasai people.

Through the troupe being brought to the UK for tours of its dance, song and jumping, its members are now able to live in corrugated buildings with windows, chimneys and doors.

They also have guttering which collects rainwater in barrels for them to use.

Members of the troupe explained to the children how they pass their culture down the generations through song and dance, with each song having a story and meaning relating to their way of life.

During their performances, children and staff were invited to join in to see how high anyone could jump in comparison to the warriors.

Since the last visit three years ago children from Carbeile have been sponsoring the schooling of Dadiyio, a five-year-old orphaned child from the warriors' village in Kenya.

The evening event took £325 at the door, some of which will continue to help Dadiyio and other villagers.
