Sunday, January 30 saw 310 runners converge on the little village of Luppitt to take up the challenge of The Luppitt Lollop 2000.
This is a multi-terrain race over 14.2 miles of the Devon countryside, which equates to about 20 miles on the road. The weather on the day was better than expected, but the recent rain made the course extremely muddy and slippery underfoot.
This year's winner was Neil Holmes from Erme Valley Harriers, finishing in a time of 1:42:02.
East Cornwall Harriers turned out a good team of 10 runners. Keith Rolphe led them home in 64th position in a time of 2:11:21. Next in 66th position overall and first lady was Jacky Tyler in 2:12:04. Brian Bilsborough, in 70th position, finished in 2:12:38, with Len White not far behind in 76th position in a time of 2:14:50. 82nd position was Bill Muller in a time of 2:16:11, closely followed by Mark Andrews, 87th, in 2:16:27. Jess Hoskin, coming back to fitness after a lay off over Christmas, was awarded third prize in the ladies senior race, finishing 89th overall in a time of 2:17:12. Andrew Lord, suffering with a cold managed to finish in a time of 2:21:57 in 111th position. Alan Smith finished in 141st in 2:29:03, and Jeremy Bennett finished in 2:59:09 in 268th. position.
