St Pirans day was celebrated by 155 runners taking part in the 5-Tors Moorland Race. This is a well organised race put on annually by the Common Moor Village Group, there was a new venue this year with the race starting and finishing near the Hurlers at Minions, and Lisa and Nigel Drew of Minions Post Office kindly gave up their tea room for the registration and prize giving.

The route followed the same testing course over five tors of Bodmin moor. The weather was perfect for the runners this year, but the recent rain made the going quite tough in places. The winner of the event was Phil Pollard in a time of 1:06. Second was Nigel Jenkins, from Dartmoor Runners, in 1:07:40, and third was N Ratcliffe, from Falmouth Road Runners, in a time of 1:09:02. The first lady back was Jacky Tyler, from East Cornwall Harriers, in a time of 1:24:15, second was Jennifer Mills from Bideford AC in 1:28:22, and Jess Hoskins, also from ECH, finished in third place in a time 1:29:57. The third member of the ECH ladies team, Jenny Nash finished in fourth in 1:31:23.
