LOCAL artist Ian Pethers who lives in a cottage overlooking the Tamar Valley with his wife Marylou is currently showing some of his work at The Mall Galleries near Trafalgar Square in London, the exhibiton ending on October 24. Among the work is his Cornish rockpool paintings. Ian, who moved to the area in 1990, and was responsible for the painting of two of Callington's murals, grew up in London, but family holidays were taken in Cornwall, his first oil paintings depicting scenes around Polperro. In 2001 he was elected an associate of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers. In April 2003 he received the Llewellyn-Alexander Master's Award for one of the two best sets of miniatures in the exhibition at the Westminster Gallery. Locally Ian's rockpool paintings can also be seen at the Mid Cornwall Galleries, St Blazey, and Tiffany Gallery, Looe.
