Plymouth Argyle go into tomorrow's match at Sheffield United in a healthy eighth place after their injury-hit squad won 1-0 at Rotherham United on Tuesday. French U21 international defender Matthias Doumbe scored the second half winner after Graham Coughlan headed on a Lee Makel free kick to the Frenchman. A changed team from Saturday's home defeat by Wigan Athletic, saw Saltash teenager Ryan Dickson make his starting debut after a good 20 minutes as a substitute against Wigan. The promising left-sided player came on for the last 20 minutes in Saturdays 2-1 home defeat against table toppers Wigan Athletic, impressing with his pace and eagerness to get the ball into the penalty area. With Northern Ireland international Tony Capaldi sidelined for at least another month and with Argyle short of a genuine left-sided players, manager Bobby Williamson gave the youngster his head. With his job done Dickson went off in the 84th minute to resounding applause from the travelling Argyle fans, to be replaced by Keith Lasley. Williamson said: 'He worked very hard and gave us everything he had. He gets in good crosses and that's what we are looking for.' It also saw the managers confidence in returning David Worrell to the right back spot after filling in on the left side, relegating Paul Connolly to the bench. Peter Gilbert returned to left back, with Mickey Evans and Stevie Crawford the double pronged attack. Argyle now face a Sheffield United side under the guidance of former Argyle boss Neil Warnock. Sheffield sit one place below Argyle in ninth place with both teams on 20 points. A win for either side could catapult them into a play off position. A far cry from a few weeks ago when Argyle couldn't buy a win. Tony Capaldi and Hasney Aljofree will be sidelined for some time yet, but Steven Milne should have recovered from a knee injury, as should Nathan Lowndes who was taken off against Wigan with an injured neck. There remains a doubt about David Friio. Argyle should have sell out crowds for the next two home matches. Next Saturday sees West Ham United at Home Park. They have former England and Manchester United star Teddy Sheringham in their line-up. On Tuesdays second-placed Reading are the visitors. After that comes trips to leaders Wigan Athletic and Coventry City, to complete a run of four difficult matches. Former Notts County manager Jocky Scott has replaced John Blackley as first team coach. Williamson has known Scott for many years. He joins Argyle from coaching Sunderland's reserve team. Argyle sent a young team to Elmore for a Devon St Lukes Bowl tie when a Tony McKeever 39th minute goal earned them a 1-0 victory. Fowey's Chris Reski and Saltash youngster Brinton Nute were also in the squad. Argyle Ladies team are in FA Cup action on Sunday with Dorset club Ashdown Rovers their first round visitors at Hayes Road, Elburton FC, with a 2pm kick off.
