I was disgusted to hear on the Spotlight television news that Mrs Margarette Worden had been sacked from her position as chief executive for the Cornish Air Ambulance. Mrs Worden set up and ran the operation and raised more than £20m, a feat that earned her the MBE. In 2004, she lost her position on the accusation of misappropriation of funds, something that she has always strenuously denied and which was proven to be untrue in court. Mrs Worden was discharged with no case to answer. I now hear that the air ambulance is operating at a loss for the first time since its inception. Could this be attributed to the fancy office and fittings that have replaced the cabin that was used to great effect by Mrs Worden and her helpers? Mrs Worden has said from the outset of this sorry matter that all she wanted was to clear her name and continue the work that she had started. She has done the first, why can she not do the second? As a member of the public, I am appalled by the treatment of a woman who gave 18 years of her time and effort to set up and finance the air ambulance. As a sign of my support and belief in Mrs Worden MBE, I am starting up a petition to have the current trustees removed and Mrs Worden and her team reinstated as soon as possible. If anyone else would like to set up a petition, then please contact me as many others have already done.
