Burraton Male Voice Choir held its Annual General Meeting in the Burraton Methodist Schoolroom when Chairman Norman Nichol-son welcomed Vice Pre-sident Howard Tamblyn who opened the meeting with a prayer.
The members stood in tribute to their President Alf Brooking, Treasurer Arthur Marks and Assistant Secretary Len Coville who had passed away during the year.
There were 28 members present and the fully informative reports by the choir committee ensured that once again the Annual Meeting moved swiftly and efficiently through the business of the evening. The choir has had another successful year and in his musical directors review, Philip Taylor said the choir had performed 17 concerts and participated in the Exeter Festival of Male Voice Praise. There were 55 different sacred hymns and songs sung at widely scattered venues from Whitstone to St. Ives. The choir had celebrated its 25th anniversary under his leadership and led the singing in the open air at Gwennap Pit. Other highlights had been performing with the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines at the Plymouth Pavilions and joining with the Polperro and Pelynt Male Voice Choirs on other occasions. He looked forward to this years programme which promised a full calendar of arrangements throughout Devon and Cornwall with bookings already made for 2001.
Reporting on his first year as secretary, Phil Thomas expressed his gratitude to fellow officers and all members for their support and especially the Ladies Supporters Club for all their hard work behind the scenes. There had been a regular practice attendances of 30 from 36 members and accompanist Muriel Nicholson was thanked for her loyalty.
The Chairman thanked Ray Horne for filling the Treasurers post, Charles Allen for arranging home going prayers, John Drew for his press reports and all members for their support and dedication.
Howard Tamblyn was re-elected as Choirs Hon. Vice President.
