THE biggest date in the Caradon calendar is Saturday, July 12 when it will be time for the 111th Liskeard Show. The gates open to the public from 8am on the show fields at Merrymeet, where a full programme of events is scheduled. A coup for this year's show will be the appearance of the Blazing Saddles Stunt Team who are visiting Liskeard as part of their European tour. Amy Woodward, owner and lead female performer, and the rest of the riders, are guaranteed to thrill everyone with their fearlessness in the saddle. The farming community will be showing the best of their cattle and sheep competing for rosettes and trophies, while there will also be a large number of horse classes, donkeys, poultry, a pets corner and a dog show. This year as part of a national campaign, dog owners can get their pets identity chipped for free at the pets corner. There will be dozens of trade stands to browse around as well as the popular Cornish Food Marquee, a Homes and Garden Marquee, the Domestic Tent and much more. There will also be a beer tent, and there are food vendors all around the showground. So it's time to get along to the show, buy an ice cream and enjoy a grand day out! Show president David Allen said: 'This year promises to uphold the reputation as Liskeard being one of the leading one- day shows in Cornwall and Devon. Enjoyable 'I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and hope for good weather and an enjoyable day.' There is a free bus to and from the show running every 20 minutes with the first bus departing from Liskeard Railway Station at 9am, followed by Rapsons car park in Station Road 9.03am, Lloyds Banks on the Parade at 9.05am and Luxstowe House at Addington at 9.07am. The last bus for the show departs from the station at 5.40pm. The return journey drop off points are in reverse from Merrymeet. The last bus for the town will leave at 6pm.
