LOCAL people have reacted with anger to plans to install a bulky waste shredder at the Connon Bridge tip.
Cornwall Council and waste contractor Suez are proposing to bring in a machine for shredding items such as mattresses which are too big to fit into the mouth of the incinerator at St Dennis.
The shredded material would then be taken to the incinerator for disposal.
The Connon Bridge landfill site is due to close at the end of December 2018 - but the shredder may well continue operating after that time, if a planned trial period is extended.
There’s more on this in the current print edition of the Cornish Times.
