PHOTOGRAPHER John Rapson has achieved an amazing double.

John took the pictures at Philip and Sheila Whiting's wedding in 1954 – and he has now photographed them again for their diamond wedding anniversary.

John was only seven years into his career as a photographer when he captured the wedding of Philip and Sheila on film.

He went on to complete four decades in the profession and still takes some photographs today though he has been retired since 1987

The 91-year-old went along to the diamond wedding couple's home in Liskeard to offer his congratulations.

Sheila said: 'We have lived in the town in the same house all our married lives and have always known John.

'We were holding an open house to celebrate our anniversary and were delighted when John knocked on our door to offer his congratulations, and then took our picture again.

'Not many people can say the same photographer took the pictures at their original wedding and on their diamond anniversary.'

John was also interested to look through the wedding album he had originally made for the couple 60 years ago.

Sheila added: 'John later presented us with the picture all specially framed. It was such a nice gesture and was much appreciated.'

John's picture of the couple was also published in the Cornish Times.

John, who owned Rapsons Studios in Liskeard, photographed around 2,000 weddings during his career.

He said: 'I still have all the negatives listed on a computer and can easily access them.'

His career as a photographer started after the Second World War. During the conflict, John had served for four-and-a-half years in the RAFVR as a wireless operator. When he returned home to Liskeard, he branched out into photography having acquired a Zeiss Contax camera in Germany.
