200 Tesco staff from across the Southwest, including Callington’s bakery manager, will be abandoning the aisles and taking to the Camel Trail to raise £30,000 for Padstow RNLI.
The 22-mile sponsored cycle ride between Padstow and Bodmin and back will take place over the weekend of June 25 to 26, with a campsite, live music and entertainment laid on for the participants.
Bakery manager Amy Jeffreys from Callington will be one of those taking part. She said: ‘I’ve bought a new bike and I’ll be camping overnight – I’m really looking forward to trying out our new tent. It’s an amazing opportunity to help out the RNLI and have fun with my friends.’
The supermarket chain is also supporting the RNLI by donating 10p from the sale of every pack of specially branded chocolate chip biscuits from Rowe’s Cornish bakery, only available across the southwest.
In addition, RNLI volunteers will be visiting Tesco stores in July to talk to customers about the charity’s Respect the Water campaign and about the purpose of the RNLI.
