MEMBERS of the public have responded after a collection box was stolen on Remembrance Sunday.

The box had been on the Field of Remembrance table set up by the Liskeard branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) and it was estimated that it contained about £50.

The Cornish Times presented Ian Bennett, Poppy Appeal organiser, with a cheque for £100 as well as a collection box that contained £51.84 donated by staff at the office.

Also Cornish Times readers Joy Mundy and her husband Maurice read the story in the Cornish Times last week and were shocked that someone could do such a thing.

As a result they have donated a £50 cheque to the RBL.

Joy said: 'We were shocked after reading what had happened.

'There is a lot of military history in our family with my husband having served in the RAF and my son has served in the Navy for 22 years.'

Ian Bennett said: 'We've had an amazing response from the public with people coming into the branch and donating money.

'Since the box was stolen we have received an extra £326 and we just want to say thank you to everyone for their support.'
