PLYMOUTH Argyle are winning their battle to maintain Championship status – for the moment at least. They can look back on the last seven days and be relatively pleased with four points from two games against teams also fighting relegation. Argyle didn't set the world on fire with their performance against Cardiff City on Saturday, but positives can be taken from the game. The arrival of Jason Dodd looks promising. Although it took the on-loan Southampton skipper took a while to adjust to Championship life, he grew in confidence. Striker Micky Evans won a place in the Coca Cola team of the week following his performance against Cardiff, while of on-loan Hungarian Akos Buzsaky was a pleasure to watch. His first goal for the Pilgrims came against Watford on Tuesday. Starting and finishing the move himself, he slotted home from just inside the box after making the decision to take a quick free kick. The Green Army would undoubtedly welcome any chance of keeping the on-loan Hungarian into next season. Perhaps the biggest worry, however, is that Argyle have not put in particularly good performances in their last two matches. Against Watford, they did not kill off the game when, certainly in the first 20 minutes, they should have. 'We need to play better than that,' said manager, Bobby Williamson. 'The battle was never won at any stage.' The battle is, however, lost for Rotherham who fell through the Championship trap door on Tuesday after their defeat at Ipswich. This leaves just two places left, with Plymouth currently lying 16th, four points above the drop zone. And although plenty of teams could still get dragged into the mix, Argyle are sitting relatively safely at the top of the clump. They face an awkward trip to Nottingham Forest this weekend, and despite their woeful away record should be in with a shout of claiming at least one point. It will be interesting to see what kind of reaction Forest midfielder David Friio gets from the Green Army. Friio was recruited by Forest boss Gary Megson from Argyle in February after four years at Home Park. He was an integral part of the Argyle engine room and has already fitted neatly into the Forest side. With just six home wins all season Forest look beatable. Micky Evans could be rested after playing one and-a-half games in four days, while Dexter Blackstock, who worked tirelessly on Tuesday, will feel hard done by if he misses out on a starting role. While Argyle have become divorced from the top half of the Championship table in recent months, grinding out results in their remaining fixtures should see them stay up – a prize they will settle for. Argyle fans are being given a chance to have their say on next season's home and away strips. Three designs have been submitted on the Pilgrim's website and in the matchday programmes, with the option for fans to e-mail, text or post their views on the new kit.
