The Lions Club of Liskeard is again hosting St Matthew’s Fair on Saturday, October 1.

This event has been celebrated for many years in the town and this year the Lions have included all the successful events…and added a few new ones.

The stalls will set up just after 9am and include many of the charities that Liskeard and the Lions Club of Liskeard has supported, as well as some commercial stalls.

Last year the Owl Sanctuary visited with their birds and it was a great success. They are returning to display their owls in Pig Meadow Lane.

On the Parade, there will be an inflatable slide and Chloe the Clown will be there between 10.30am and 12.30pm with balloon modelling and magic tricks in abundance.

At 10.45 am the Liskeard Town Crier, Chris Smithwaite will proclaim the opening of the Fair on the Parade, together with by Mayor Jayne Pascoe and Liskeard Lions’ president Phil Stephens.

The Lions say it would be nice if they could be joined by lots of children for a group photograph.

The Town Criers will hold their competition on Fore Street, an exhibition not to be missed, from 11am.

From 12.30pm to 1.30pm it is the Pavement Artist Competition on The Parade.

There are categories for under five years, five to under nine years and nine years and over, with prizes awarded to first, second and third places, together with a prize for the overall winner.

The ladies of the Lions are giving Mary Berry a run for her money in baking and donating to the cake stall and there is a ‘Witches’ Cauldron Lucky Dip’ in addition to the Pluck a Duck on the Lady Lions stall on the Parade.

There will also be a coconut stall at this year’s event.

The Lions’ new catering van will be providing drinks, bacon rolls and hot dogs.

Music will be provided during the fair by Samba Kernow and Liskeard Silver Band.
