The team of volunteers who organise the Liskeard Ploughman’s Festival have been working hard throughout today getting everything ready for the fourth event, which takes place tomorrow in the town centre.

Hundreds of eager shoppers and music fans, joined by holiday-makers, are expected to enjoy the free community event, billed as ‘Liskeard’s Big Summer Chill Out’.

Growing in popularity each year is the Farmers’ Market, held on The Parade from 10am-2pm. This year’s will be the biggest to date with more than 20 stallholders selling a wide variety of Cornish produce.

Fried ice cream making will be demonstrated and a large traditional sweets stall from Looe will please the children.

Live bees will be adding to the general buzz of the atmosphere.

There will also be some craft stalls for the first time.

Entertainment comes from Cornish folk musicians Carlton and Maggie, known as llow Splann, and traditional Cornish dancing from Scoots Kernow.

The gates of Westbourne Gardens, off Dean Street, will be open from noon, when there is expected to be the usual rush to claim a hay bale as the favoured form of seating for the live music which runs until 7pm.

There are five bands and five solo musicians performing across genres from rock to folk and indie to blues on the Caunters Main Stage, and The Ugalde & Son Acoustic Stage.

In order of appearance from 1pm sharp they are Reuben Ridout, Velvet Echoes, Rosie Ugalde, Buffalo Frame, Charlie Harris, Bache, Josh Taylor, Tez & The Suits, acoustic headliner Nick Mears, and main band of the day, Oh Majester, fresh from Boardmasters last weekend.

The festival’s own pop-up pub is ‘The Ploughman’s Rest’.

Main sponsor for the third year, Alex Mackay of The Albion pub, said: ‘This is a great day out for the family and it’s free.’
