The streets and quaysides of West Looe will be thronging with music, dancing and colour for this year’s West Looe May Fayre.
The event, led by Edwina Hannaford, Sheila Brock and Julie Simmons and a small but dedicated steering group is set for Saturday, May 5 in and around the streets of West Looe from 10.15am - 3pm.
The day kicks off with a processional lead by St Pinnock Band, The Mayor of Looe Armand Toms, Sheila’s School of Dancing, pupils from Looe Primary School, Looe Pioneers Running Club, the Army Cadets and anyone else who wants to join in.
The Queen of the May is 16-year-old Tiede Gibson from Looe and the Green Man is George Ingham. They will be overseeing the day, the Queen from her ‘throne’ decorated by Looe In Bloom volunteers.
Edwina said: ‘The day is a mixture of old favourites like an exhibition of old Looe photographs and memorabilia in Riverside Church and musical entertainment from the fire station stage and Riverside Church and couple of new things we hope will prove popular. The bouncy castle and an air guitar competition is back by popular demand.’
The focus for the day will be a Maypole outside the Fire Station on the harbour side with dancers from Sheila’s School of Dancing kicking off the celebrations overseen by the Queen of the May and the Green Man.
Anyone can join in the dancing which revives an ancient tradition to mark the change from Winter to Spring.
A full programme of local performers is planned including St Pinnock Band, Just Voices of Looe, Dance with Jodie, Kings School of Dancing, Mark Rice, Louis Evans, Looe Ukulele Group, Looe Valley Singers, Hyper Active from Polperro and Sheila’s School of Dancing.
