YEAR 9 pupils at Liskeard School and Community College will be learning about alcohol misuse as part of a project from Devon and Cornwall police. The college is one of five across the county piloting the scheme, named Blitz, which aims to reduce alcohol-related problems within the Cornwall. Pupils at the school will be visited next week and the session will start with a play which deals with two young girls who experiment with alcohol and the consequences. There will be interactive workshops which encourage the children to question what they have seen in the play. Every child who attends the Blitz program will also be given an information pack to take home. Sue Edwards, licensing officer at Devon and Cornwall police, said: 'We hope that by educating children in alcohol issues in a fairly hard-hitting way, we may be able to help change their attitude and the way they deal with peer pressure with regards to alcohol.' Funding for the project has been provided by the Safer Stronger Communities Fund and has been organised by Devon and Cornwall police and community safety partners.
