STRONG opposition from residents could not stop the approval of plans for 20 new affordable village homes. Permission was granted by Caradon District Council's Planning Control Committee for the affordable homes to be built in Millbrook – despite 24 letters of objection from residents. 'The main concern is that Millbrook is a big village with a very poor infrastructure,' said a spokesman for Millbrook Parish Council. 'We get a lot of traffic problems in the village and although we want to support the need for affordable housing, residents don't want to do anything to increase the problems we have.' There were also concerns raised that the local school and doctors surgery would not cope with an increase in population. However, the affordable housing officer advised the planners that there was a significant need for affordable housing in Millbrook. The housing will now be built in an open field south of Southdown Road. The houses will be either semi-detached or terraced and will have 30 car parking spaces.
