Young actors are needed for a performance based on local legends and Celtic superheroes.
Kilminorth Assemble has been devised and scripted by youngsters in the Play it Again Theatre Company.
The play takes the heritage of Kilminorth Woods – including the story of Jack the Giant and his hedge – and sets it in the style of the superhero movie Avengers Assemble.
With an outdoor performance set for May, auditions will be held on March 25 to fill the leading and supporting roles.
‘Play It Again is an inclusive company and we welcome people from all walks of life to apply for an audition place,’ said project manager Claire Patrick.
You might want to play a lead character such as Jack or Boudicca or perhaps a smaller chorus character such as a seagull or Cornish Knocker. Experience is not necessary – just enthusiasm!’
With Cornish wrestling, stage combat and the Cornish weather all part of the rehearsal process, the play is ‘not for the faint-hearted actor’ says Claire – but participation in the workshops is free.
Priority will be given to people aged 12 to 25 in the Looe area, but anyone aged 12 and over in the Liskeard and Looe district can apply.
The Kilminorth Assemble project is funded by Arts Council England, Cornwall Community Foundation, West Looe Town Trust and East Looe Town Trust along with advice and support from the Friends of Kilminorth Woods.
Participants will have the opportunity to gain skills and work alongside professional artists such as writer Jackie Taylor, dancer Rob Mennear, actor Claire Patrick, digital artist Andy Taylor and director Jon Nash.
Rehearsals will take place on Saturdays through April (except Easter weekend) with the play to be performed on May 13.
