A MAJOR improvement scheme at the Carkeel Roundabout, near Saltash, is set to be finished several months ahead of schedule.

Traffic lights came into operation on the roundabout at the start of this week and were reported to have been ‘working well’ by Cornwall Council on Wednesday morning.

The £3.85m scheme has seen the roundabout being enlarged and part of the A388 route towards Carkeel from Callington has been dualled.

A footbridge was installed on the eastern side of the A38 in 2015.

The project, as a whole, had been due to be completed in spring 2018, but only ‘minor works’ now need to be carried out, said Cornwall Council, which expects the job to be completed by the end of this month.

Night-time closures will be in place towards the end of this month, says the council, so that anti-skid treatment can be laid on the surface of the roundabout.
