Olympic bronze medalist Cassie Patten unveiled a plaque that commemorates her achievements in Beijing in the summer.

Cassie, from St Cleer, received the medal after coming third in the 10k open water swim.

As the plaque was unveiled at Lux Park Leisure Centre, Liskeard, cllr Paul Adams, chairman of Caradon District Council, said: 'We are delighted to welcome Cassie back to Lux Park.

'Her achievements will serve as a great inspiration to other youngsters who come through these doors.'

When asked about what advice she would give to kids wishing to take up the sport, Cassie said: 'The most important thing is making sure that kids have the facilities in which to train.

'I would urge them to approach any clubs in their area because the support is there for them.

'It is all about identifying the talent and then nurturing it, so grass-roots training is the key.'
