A channel divides us

As one of the dinosaur brigade referred to by Tony Johnson (July 9), I would be the first to concede that he has every right to take an ostrich-like view of Europe.

But his emphasis on the millions of pounds being passed to Cornwall should be set against the billions that British taxpayers have pumped into the bottomless trough of Europe.

The inhabitants of this island have no need to apologise for wishing to retain their own independence.

If Mr Johnson were to be honest, he would be forced to admit that the only thing the British have in common with Europe is a shared channel.
