Detectives investigating an assault on a woman during an attempted robbery in Liskeard are appealing for information.

The 44-year-old local woman was walking along the footpath with her dog at the rear of St Martins Court when she was hit from behind by a metal pole or similar object held by a man.

The victim was hit to the back of the head and fell to the ground during the incident that happened between 9.55pm and 10.05pm on Saturday, April 2.

Whilst on the ground she was searched by the suspect. On realising she had no property on her he then threatened to take her dog. The victim let the dog loose and it ran to safety.

The offender ran off and the dog was found nearby.

The suspect is described as being around 6ft tall, of slim build, with sunken eyes and an oval, gaunt face. He was wearing a dark hooded top, blue jeans and bright white Nike trainers.

Detective Constable Philip Tucker, from Liskeard CID, said: ’The victim suffered minor injuries and is very distressed and upset by the incident. Her dog is also receiving treatment from the vets as a result.

’We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the description of this man.’
