THREE people were returned to safety after getting cut off by the tide at Talland Bay.
Looe volunteer lifeboat crew received the call yesterday at around 6.50pm, and arrived to find the three people on rocky outcrops to the west of the beach. With the incoming tide, the group had been split up with one person on one rock around 100 yards from the other two.
’Helm Dan Margetts timed his approach through the swell, putting the bow of the lifeboat into the rocks, allowing crew members Goron Jones and Jack Spree to help the first casualty into the boat,’ said an RNLI spokesperson.
’ Dan, Goron and Jack then had to repeat the same manoeuvre to pick up the other two from the second rock. Our crew took the three back to Talland beach where Looe coastguard team were waiting.’
Commenting on the rescue, Dan said: ’It was a tricky approach through the swell and rocky outcrops. The D Class inshore lifeboat is very capable and comes into her own for rescues in the surf and shallow water amongst rocks and confined locations.’
Dan advises everyone who goes to the coast to check the tide times and to stay aware of the situation.
