TORPOINT police have underlined their warning about the dangers of ‘tombstoning’ to children and parents, adding that incidents can be dealt with under legislation designed to combat antisocial behaviour.
Youngsters diving into the sea off cliffs in the Kingsand and Cawsand area is an ‘ongoing problem’, say officers, who have seen an increase in incidents being reported over the summer holiday period.
A letter was sent home to parents of students attending Torpoint Community College before the school holidays, and the police have now reissued the information due to the number of reported incidents of tombstoning.
A spokesperson for Torpoint Police said: ‘Tombstoning is incredibly dangerous and has previously resulted in injury and, in some cases, death.
‘During the summer months there is an increase in calls related to tombstoning.
‘This is included within the antisocial behaviour legislation, and can be dealt with by the antisocial behaviour escalation process.’
