THIS is ‘Specials Weekend’ and police forces around the country have been showcasing the work of their Special Constabularies, more generally known as ‘Specials’.

Devon and Cornwall Police has more than 500 Specials and colleagues in Avon and Somerset number 350, each supporting their regular forces.

Their ages range from 20 to 68 and the longest serving officer in Devon and Cornwall is Special Chief Inspector Tim Courtis from Barnstaple. In February next year Tim will have completed 40 years’ service.
