THERE’S been praise for Special Constables in Devon and Cornwall’s Police force who have given many hours of service during the coronavirus crisis.
In the first four weeks of lockdown, East Cornwall Specials said that 12 officers from Looe, Liskeard, Saltash and Torpoint had worked a combined 1193 hours. Several have worked full shift patterns alongside designated response sections.
Across Devon and Cornwall as a whole there are several Special Constables who have been furloughed from their jobs or made redundant, but they are still booking on duty and volunteering to help keep the public safe.
One officer who tweeted recently said: ’Not the best few weeks for me. I’ve lost my grandparents and my job, but I’m still completely thankful for what I still have. I’ll continue doing my bit as a Special Constable as much as I can.’
Recruitment for the Special Constables in Devon and Cornwall is currently open until May 31 – to find out more have a look at the Devon and Cornwall’s Police website.
