Fire crew have made a plea to drivers to park with care after a fire engine was unable to get through in a town centre.
Liskeard firefighters were on their way to carry out safety checks in a residential street when they had to abandon attempts to drive through Varley Lane.
‘We tried unsuccessfully to drive up the lane to carry out some home fire safety checks for residents in the Melbourne Road area,’ said a Fire Station spokesperson.
‘The fire engine was prevented from getting there due to cars being parked too far out from the kerb, making the road too narrow for us to pass.
‘Can we ask everyone, irrespective of where you live, to park your car with a suitable space for a fire engine to pass. In an emergency situation this can slow or possibly prevent our attendance, putting lives at risk.’
Several people commenting on the Fire Service’s post on social media put forward the view that commuters were using the residential streets to park because of charges in the car parks.
