AN arson attack at a caravan park near Looe has caused around £100,000 of damage, says the family who run the site.
Extensive damage has been caused to the shop at West Wayland Caravan Park and police are investigating the incident, which happened between 10pm on Tuesday (Feb 26) and 7am on Wednesday.
The shop, which was due to open along with the caravan park tomorrow (Friday), could now have to remain shut for several months while it is cleaned up and repaired.
West Wayland is run by the Ede family, who described the suspected deliberate fire as a ‘nightmare’.
They say they were alerted to the fire by a neighbour who saw smoke - and they were devastated to discover the extent of the damage at the shop. The family say they are determined to find a way to reopen the shop as soon as possible and 'go forward fighting'.
Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with any information should email [email protected] quoting crime reference CR/017870/19 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
