Looe’s new Atlantic 85 class lifeboat Sheila and Dennis Tongue II has been on her first mission after being officially named.

Just a day after the craft’s naming ceremony last Saturday, Falmouth coastguard requested the launch of both Looe lifeboats on Sunday at 1.15pm after it was reported people were in the water to the east of Black Rock, East Looe. The Looe coastguard were also called to investigate.

The call was a false alarm but with good intent.

Several kayakers were in the vicinity and were the subject of the alarm.

The two groups of kayakers were spoken to and were safe and well enjoying the lovely conditions. It was satisfying to see all were wearing the correct safety gear, said a Looe RNLI spokesman.

On Sheila & Dennis Tongue II were crew David Jackman, Guy Cooper and Aaron Rix and on the D class lifeboat Ollie Naismith were Matt Jaycock and Gareth Shaw.
