Pictured are Trainee Police Dog (TPD) Nero, TPD Nico and TPD Nicki at one of their training sessions last November. They’re from the same litter and are now just over a year old.
All were showing excellent promise in their training and were earmarked for the 2019 September initial police dog course. Their final test was to have their hips x-rayed to see if they were suitable for the rigours of life as a police dog.
Sadly, only TPD Nico’s hips were good enough so Devon and Cornwall Police are now looking for new homes for TPD Nicki and TPD Nero.
TPD Nicki can live a normal life as a pet but TPD Nero had a bad start to life when he contracted Juvenile Pyoderma at around four weeks of age. His hips are worse than his sister Nicki’s and, although he is very athletic and currently shows no sign of a hip problem, he may require medication later in life.
If anyone is able to offer either Nicki or Nero a home please email your details to Canine Development Officer Paul Glennon at [email protected].
