OWNERS of a country estate were left scratching their heads after a heavy granite ball went missing from the driveway.

Pentillie Castle in the Tamar Valley is owned by the Coryton family and was the set for the recent television Sky series Delicious starring Dawn French and Emilia Fox.

This week, the Corytons were dismayed to discover that a granite ball had disappeared from the top of a plinth at the entrance to the main estate car park.

The family posted on social media to ask the ‘light-fingered so-and-so’ who had taken it to bring it back.

‘It’s very annoying,’ said Sammie Coryton, who runs the stately home as a wedding venue and luxury B&B.

‘It’s been there for years. We think it was taken on Sunday or Monday (February 4 or 5). They’re not easy to move – I’d say it was a two-man job to lift – and it can’t have been blown off by the wind.

‘We just would like it brought back, really.’
