Firefighters have been tackling massive gorse fires across Bodmin Moor overnight.

The mile long fire front was dealt with over 80 officers from Wadebridge, St Austell, St Dennis, Bodmin, Lostwithiel, Callington and Launceston. The police were also in attendance,

After the original call, further calls were received to the Bolventor area with reports of another fire developing.

In all there were four fire fronts spread over a distance of two miles. A further fire was reported in the Dozmary Pool/Draynes Valley area.

Police are requesting the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police on 101, quoting log 71 of 18/04/19. To report a fire, dial 999 immediately and ask for the Fire Service.

By 6.40 this morning firefighters were defensively monitoring the area for any further hotspots. Resources started to leave the scene.
