A LISKEARD man has been found guilty of murder after stabbing 20-year-old Damien Bendelow in the Cattle Market car park in January.

Carl Smythe, 46, attacked Damien after they had fought in the White Horse pub on the night of January 25, and Damien died of his wounds in the early hours of the next morning: he had been stabbed six times.

Smythe, of Varley Lane, Liskeard, denied the charge of murder. He said he had picked up a knife in self-defence but did not remember using it. This contradicted information heard by the jury earlier in the trial - that Smythe had confessed to the stabbing to a friend.

Sentencing is due to be passed tomorrow (Wednesday August 12).
