POLICE were searching the streets of Liskeard late this afternoon for a man in connection with a possible armed robbery.

An incident took place at Addington Stores off Park View at around 3.25pm.

A police spokesman said a man had entered the store and attempted to open the till, but on an alarm being activated he ran from the premises on foot.

Police at the scene, which had been cordoned off, said it had been alleged a female member of staff was held hostage at knifepoint.

It was confirmed that the local woman involved was unharmed apart from being in shock. 

The incident is ongoing, with no information on whether the man has been found and arrested.

There was a large police presence in the area around the alleged crime scene and in other parts of the town.
