Firefighters in South East Cornwall have been among colleagues from all over the county dealing with fires breaking out in the open in dry conditions fostered by the heatwave.

Crews from Liskeard and Looe Community Fire Stations dealt with a fire measuring fifteen metres by three metres in a corn field off Plymouth Road in Liskeard on Sunday afternoon (July 15).

Firefighters used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

Arson is suspected as the cause and the Police have been informed.

An appliance from Liskeard was sent to a fire in a field at Polbathic on Saturday afternoon.

An area of long grass in a field approximately 100 metres square was well alight.

Firefighters used beaters and a hose reel to put out the flames and damp down the area.

The cause is believed to be accidental.
