FOUR separate areas of fire on Bodmin Moor, including one a kilometre long, were extinguished by firefighters in the early hours of this morning.
Crews from Delabole and Wadebridge were called to Rough Tor at around 3am.
A Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: ’The incident involved four seats of fire the largest being one kilometre long, which, fanned by high winds, had also spread to trees.
’The crews made good progress with beaters and hosereels to extinguish the fire.’
This was the latest in a recent series of gorse or grass fires in open areas in Cornwall and the emergency services have pleaded with people to be extra vigilant. They’ve also asked landowners not to carry out controlled burns at present.
Meanwhile several calls were received by the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) critical control centre after a barn caught fire in Lewannick on Saturday night.
Engines from Launceston, Callington and Delabole Fire Stations along with a Flexi Duty Officer were mobilised to the scene.
The fire involved a large single storey barn which was well alight when crew arrived. The crew, wearing breathing apparatus, fought the fire using two jets and one hosereel.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, said CFRS.
