Firefighters from Saltash Community Fire Station have reported on social media that they were at a holiday park on the Rame Peninsula early this morning (Thursday, July 22) fighting a fire involving two chalets.

The call to the Whitsand Bay Holiday Park at Millbrook occurred at 6.45am today, when fire first broke out in a fridge inside the worst affected chalet, and pictures show that this chalet was completely ablaze by the time crews from Saltash, Torpoint and Liskeard arrived on the scene. The appliances attending were one from Saltash, two from Torpoint (both the pump and the small L4T) and from Liskeard one pump and also a water carrier plus a duty officer.

In addition, the police officers who also attended the incident were described as “very helpful” by the Saltash crew and the nearby Military Road was closed for a time while the blaze was dealt with.

Despite conditions described as “very warm”, the crews extinguished the blaze in the remnants of the building where the fire had broken out and also put out flames which had caught onto a neighbouring chalet, which was saved.

Crew members then remained for some time turning over and cooling the embers.

A representative of Saltash Community Fire Station wrote on Facebook that the chalet residents got out safely and no-one was hurt. We thank the crew at the station for allowing the Cornish Times to use these pictures.
