Cornwall’s firefighters have dealt with their second major building fire in a week.
Just before 11pm last night a number of 999 calls were received from neighbours stating the former Roselyon School, on St Blazey Road, Par was on fire with flames seen coming through a roof.
Appliances from Fowey and St Austell were immediately mobilized alongside a wholetime officer. On arrival two additional appliances were requested and appliances from Lostwithiel and St Dennis were called in.
Crews arrived to find an outbuilding on the old school site was well alight and part of the roof had collapsed. Using hose reel jets and main jets the crews started the fire fighting effort.
Specialist vehicles joined the effort from Launceston (Incident Command Unit) and St Austell (Operational Support Vehicle).
By 12.30am the incident had been increased to five pumps with St Columb Major crew being mobilized. Firefighters were working to prevent fire spreading to nearby buildings..
By 2am the fire was under control and firefighters were being stood down. South West Water was informed as the fire was fought with water supplemented from nearby hydrants.
Police are now investigating.
