A crew from Launceston Community Fire Station battled a fire in approximately one hectare of gorse on Laneast Downs late last night.

The fire was allowed to burn to natural breaks and one hose reel jet was used to extinguish hot spots.

It was the fifth gorse fire to have broken out in Cornwall over the recent short dry spell, and the county’s fire service is asking people to take care with open fires and discarded glass, matches and cigarettes during dry weather.

A fire broke out in gorse on cliffs near Crafthole the previous day.
