AN ELDERLY man who agreed to work being done on his roof found himself conned out of £250.

The home owner, who lives in Callington, was approached by a man who knocked on his door and told him there was a hole in his roof, said local police.

But after the man had been paid and had gone, a neighbour checked the roof, confirmed that the roof was fine, and that apart from some moss being moved, no work had been done.

The scam occurred on January 23 at around mid-day.

Police describe the fake workman as aged between 40 and 50, with dark, closely shaven hair, and a local accent. They would like to hear from anyone in the area who has experienced anything similar.
