An elderly man was last night in a critical condition in hospital after a road accident.

Police were alerted at 11.30am yesterday to a collision between a grey Peugeot 206 and a pedestrian, a local man in his 80s, on Western Road, Launceston, outside the town hall.

The man received serious head injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital.
