Fire crews from all over East and North Cornwall assisted in extinguishing a fire that broke out on the Pennygilliam industrial estate at Launceston last night.
The blaze in a 20m by 6m unit was reported at 8.30pm. Initially one fire engine was mobilised, but on their arrival at the site crew requested a further four applicances from Launceston, Callington and Liskeard. At just after 9pm a fifth fire engine was requested and came from Delabole. Specialist vehicles including the Incident Command Unit from Launceston, the Operational Support Vehicle from St Austell and the Environmental Protection Unit with supporting fire appliance from Saltash attended.
’Crews worked to prevent the fire spreading to a neighbouring industrial unit,’ said a Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.
’A request for ’make pumps six for breathing apparatus’ was made at 9.35pm, and an additional appliance from Bodmin was mobilised to the scene.’
The fire was extinguished at just after 11.30pm and all but two of the fire engines returned to station, with the remaining crew checking for hotspots.
