A 17-foot fishing boat with two people aboard has returned to port following an overnight search on Friday by a total of five lifeboats, a helicopter and a Royal Navy vessel after it was lost in fog off the Devon coast.

Lifeboats from Plymouth, Looe and Fowey searched throughout the night for the open boat following an emergency call to police by mobile phone.

Royal Navy ship HMS Echo and a helicopter joined the search on Saturday morning in thick fog.

Sea conditions were calm but reduced visibility made it especially difficult to locate the boat.
