His work in supporting hungry families has led to Saltash PC Innes MacLean receiving a Superintendent’s Certificate.
Devon and Cornwall Police said: ’PC MacLean has attended numerous domestic incidents, many whilst he was a Special Constable.
’He identified, that in some instances, the cause of these incidents was exacerbated by insufficient money to buy food, gas or electricity.
’PC MacLean went to the Saltash Food Bank to understand how it operates in a bid to seek opportunities for a new system to benefit those in need.
’He built relationships with the food bank and identified how Devon and Cornwall Police could be more involved with the process.
’PC MacLean’s work resulted in the creation of a new system where the police are able to issue their own food bank vouchers.
’Since September he has been promoting this through an awareness campaign.
PC MacLean has worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome and has been supported by the safeguarding team at Launceston.
’The instrumental efforts of PC MacLean in creating this opportunity demonstrates a truly humanitarian effort which will ultimately result in officers being able to directly assist those in need giving them immediate access to the food banks.’
