Police in St Austell are appealing for information after men stole money from an 82-year-old man during a distraction burglary in Par.

The elderly victim was at his home in Tywardreath Highway on Sunday, July 23 when two men called at his door purporting to be offering gutter cleaning services stating they noticed he had roof damage.

One man distracted the victim whilst the other made a tidy search of the property and took cash and cards from the bedroom.

Acting Sergeant Martin Easter said: ‘The first man is described as white, of slim build, around 6ft tall and in his 30s with short dark hair. He was wearing a blue jumper with the word ‘STIHL’ on the chest.

‘The other man was described as being similar in appearance to the first and was wearing a black jumper and black trousers. Both had Irish accents.

‘We would like to hear from anyone who saw or spoke to these men or has any information about them.

‘We would advise people to not accept offers of work from unannounced callers to their address and to inform the police of any callers to their address whom they deem to be bogus or acting suspiciously.’
