Sgt Oliver's monthly round up
Some stark warnings from the police for car tax dodgers and under age drinkers in the February round up from Sgt Andy Oliver of Liskeard who writes:
Tax dodgers
"One thing that often gets the law abiding motorist annoyed is cars with no tax. There is a small yet visible minority of vehicle owners who flout the law in respect of road tax. Quite often other offences such as no insurance or no MOT are associated with this since these are required to be produced in order to obtain the tax.
A word of warning to the 'small minority'. GET IT TAXED OR OFF THE ROAD! For the next few weeks the local police will be clamping down on these tax dodgers. We receive regular information from the general public about cars with no tax discs. Do not think because a vehicle you reported is still stationery in the same spot that nothing has been done. I can assure you that the police always act on all information received and that the DVLA will have been informed by us."
Under age drinking
"The other problem we shall be looking at is that of under age drinking in and around Liskeard. The last few weekends has seen an increase in the number of children hanging around the town gettng drunk and causing a nuisance. Again it is only a minority causing a problem. Over the next few weeks the local police will be liaising with the school and off-licences in an effort reduce the problem.
A word of warning to those youngsters responsible - YOU ARE LIKELY TO BE STOPPED, SEARCHED, HAVE YOUR ALCOHOL DISPOSED OF AND MAY EVEN BE ARRESTED.
To those older youths - IT IS AN OFFENCE TO SUPPLY ALCOHOL TO THOSE UNDER 18. YOU RUN THE RISK OF GOING TO COURT AND BEING FINED."
Schoolgirls targeted by indecent exposer
Schoolgirls waiting to catch buses early in the morning have been targeted on two separate occasions in isolated areas by a man who has been indecently exposing himself.
The first incident occurred at a bus stop at East Taphouse on the B3359 at 8am on Wednesday, February 2, where three girls were waiting, and the second happened at Portlooe near Looe, just two days later on Friday, February 4, where another three girls were walking along the road to catch the school bus.
The Caradon Action Team have reported that all the girls are very upset by their experience. Det Sgt Cuthbert said the incidents are linked because the description of the male involved is similar. 'We are anxious to put a stop to this and catch the man as quickly as possible' he said. 'If anyone has any information, or knows of other incidents which have not been reported please get in touch with us'.
The offender is described as a white male aged about 20 years old, and is 6ft tall of an average build. He has light brown to ginger hair and was wearing black trousers with a hooded top, and was hiding his face with a yellow scarf or hat.
If anyone can help with enquiries they can contact PC Peter May at Looe Police Station, or the Caradon Action Team, by dialling 0990 777 444 or calling Crimestoppers confidentially on 0800 555 111.

MP contacts policeover parking
Liskeard's P C Steve Coombes says he has been contacted by South East Cornwall MP Colin Breed over complaints he has received about motorists parking next to and blocking dropped kerbs which are specifically for disabled access.
'We would ask people not to do this and to consider the needs of the disabled' said P C Coombes. 'Parking on dropped kerbs is an offence and we will take action against motorists who do this'.
