CARADON played host to local rivals Bodmin on Saturday and ground out a 2-2 draw in South West One of the Davis Wood Men's Hockey League.
The hosts were missing a couple of notable names which gave some of the younger team members, Finn Andrews and Lawrence Pullen, a chance to step up.
The experienced visiting defence stood firm and scored from a well-timed deflection against the run of play.
However, this galvanised the hosts and, after skilful play from Leon Farrow and Finn Andrews in midfield, Neil Wallis ploughed into the 'D' unopposed to convert a one-on-one with the Bodmin keeper for a 1-1 scoreline going to half-time.
Despite the awful weather conditions, both teams came out fighting after the break and another goal from Wallis put Caradon in front for the first time.
But Bodmin weren't finished, and a sustained period of pressure paid off when Caradon conceded a short corner, which was then converted following a well-worked routine.
With time running out, Wallis had the opportunity to complete his hat-trick and earn victory, but his shot flew just wide of the mark.
The result moves Cara-don's men's up to third in the League table.
Andrews put in a fine performance on the day to claim the 'Man of the Match' award.
