A GOAL in each half on Bank Holiday Monday secured Torpoint Athletic a spot in the semi-finals of the Rowett Insurance East Cornwall League Cup as they defeated a Tavistock outfit clearly suffering the effects of their match at St Dominick on Saturday.

Torpoint needed 20 minutes to break the deadlock when a Tom Payne corner kick was flicked on by Dave Lorrimer to Lewis Young, who headed home.

The Tamarsiders pressed forward and Young was twice denied by two good saves from goalkeeper Jamie Castle.

Tavistock hit back in the second period, but Torpoint goalkeeper Dan Batten pulled off a good save.

The deciding goal came in the 65th minute when Brian Stacey swept into the box to set up Andrew Carter, who tucked the ball away from three yards.
